On Saturday, November 12th, 2011, Neighbourhood Network will run its second annual Fall Food Drive inAurora,Newmarket andEast Gwillimbury in support of local food banks.
The goal: to raise as much money and food as possible to distribute to community food banks as they begin stocking up for the fast-approaching holiday season – one of the busiest times of the year. The food drive will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at a number of local grocery stores.
Last year, 40 Neighbourhood Network high school student volunteers canvassed at eight local stores: Metro, Longo’s, Sobeys and the Superstore inAurora, and the two Metros, Vince’s and the Superstore inNewmarketandEast Gwillimbury. The student volunteers distributed York Region Food Network grocery bags and asked patrons to consider donating food items.
In addition to the food collected during last year's drive, Neighbourhood Network also received cash donations totaling $1,533 inAuroraand $1,801 inNewmarket.
Neighbourhood Network's annualFood Drivegives local students the opportunity to take part in a volunteer activity that helps less fortunate neighbours living within our community.
Neighbourhood Network is still looking for Student and Adult volunteers. Any students who would like to volunteer and obtain community hours, or any adults interested in overseeing a store location, please call 905-726-3737 or e-mail info@neighbourhoodnetwork.org.
